Combating
Child Labour Through Education and Training
Proposed Duration: September 1991 - December 2001
Objectives:
- To strengthen the capacity of public and private sector organizations to
progressively eliminate child labour practices in the province of NWFP by
supporting policy dialogue;
- To provide pre-vocational training opportunities to working and street children
for career planning;
- To mobilize teachers to play a role in combating child labour.
Activities:
- Establishment of nine Rehabilitation and Pre-Vocational Training (RPVT)
Clusters;
- 1,060 children enrolled in the NFE (find out what NFE is) Literacy Programme;
- Development of a viable model for pre-vocational training programme including
training in Auto Engine repair, tailoring and domestic electric wiring;
- Provision of pre-vocational training on site at the workshops, at training
institutes or at the RPVT Centers by skilled trainers;
- Sensitization of people to the issue of child labour at the policy and implementation
level (including employers, parents and communities) through the media and
conducting seminars;
- Development of an information kit for Teachers, Educators and their Organization,
along with a teacher training manual;
- Training of twenty master trainers and 2,500 teachers on various aspects
of the Teachers’ Information Kit on Child Labour;
- Development of a database on working and street children to assess the progress
of the project.
