Combating abusive
child labour through prevention, withdrawal and rehabilitation
Proposed Duration: 1 January 1999 - 31 August 2002
Objectives:
- To reduce the number of children in identified sectors of the labour market
through improved quality of labour inspectors and more effective law implementation;
- To permanently integrate 18 CEA (Community Education & Action) Centers
into Pakistan Bait-ul Mal’s NCRCL System.
Activities:
- Identification and selection of sectors where incidence of child labour
is high, and also preparation and finalization of training modules and inspection
manuals;
- Testing and gathering experiences on smaller scale implementation, identification
of Labour Inspectors, preparation of an action plan and monitoring mechanism
for a focused prevention drive;
- Participating in awareness raising initiatives with the CEA Centre and social
partners, evaluation of results, improvement of prevention strategy through
refresher trainings and exchange of experiences;
- Preparation and implementation of in-service teacher and counselor training;
- Provision of curriculum, textbooks and teaching aids to teachers and organize
and maintain health screening on regular basis by PBM Mobile Dispensaries;
- Organize regular discussions with parents, employers, community leaders
and local NGOs on the issue of child labour, the CEA centers and other means
of action to combat child labour;
- Produce and distribute awareness-raising materials.
Remarks:
Although the project does not directly deal with issues relating
to girls/women, even then special emphasis has been made throughout the project
to ensure a reasonable participation of females in all the activities.
