Objectives:
- To strengthen capacity of the APFTU (find breakdown of acronym) to combat
child labour, particularly the most hazardous form of work;
- To create awareness on the negative consequences of child labour among 10,000
trade union reps and workers in formal and informal sectors at the selected
sites.
Activities:
- Appoint full time Co-ordinators at ten APFTU focal points and provide comprehensive
briefing on the issue of child labour and action programme objectives;
- Hold meetings with local trade unions/workers in the selected sites;
- Make assessment of the achievements of the action programme and set future
strategies in consultation with the relevant stakeholders, and submit monthly
progress report to the APFTU management;
- Conduct training courses on child labour and on programme design, monitoring,
and evaluation in order to build the capacity of the staff to deal with the
child labour;
- Identify the target group at various levels for awareness-raising and design
an awareness raising campaign and various training materials;
- Identify educational and training needs on the subject of child labour among
trade unions, and incorporate educational and training materials in training
programme of workers and distribute through focal points when relevant;
- Prepare information on training and educational material and distribute
it to focal points for wider distribution to trade unions, Government officials,
NGOs, employers and pressure groups like politicians, media, etc.
Remarks:
Although this action program does not explicitly outline women or girls as
its target group, this segment of the society is very much a component of the
target group.
