Child Labour
Awareness and social mobilization program in FATA, FR and Malakand Division
Proposed Duration: 1 April 2001 - 31 March 2002
Objectives:
- To conduct a study on the extent of child labour in the mining and transport
industry and in smuggling, in FATA, FR and Malakand Division and identify
hazardous activities carried out by children in these areas;
- To disseminate information on the existence and conditions of child labour
to government agencies in-charge of law enforcement related to child labour
and propose effective strategies to combat child labour in target locations;
- To launch an awareness campaign on the issue..
Activities:
- Develop a questionnaire for the collection of data on the socio-economic
and working conditions of children and their families, and train the Directorate
of Labour Welfare staff in survey methodology and field-test the questionnaire/database
forms;
- Develop software for the compilation and analysis of data and analyze it;
- Organize workshops for the presentation of the findings of the study to
Government, NGOs, Civil Society and Donors active in target locations;
- Prepare and distribute posters and a leaflet on children’s involvement and
working conditions in Urdu and Pushto languages, and also prepare information
sheets on child labour in FATA, FRs and Malakand division for external distribution
to Government Agencies, NGOs, Civil Society, donors and print media;
- Conduct periodic meetings to facilitate linkage between the Labour Department
and civil society organizations such as NGOs and other networks.
Remarks:
This action programme while conducting baseline survey will
also collect information on girl child laborers. Moreover, during the awareness
raising and capacity building activities the gender perspective will invariably
come up.
