Strengthening of the Punjab
Council for the Rights of Children (PCRC) and Child Labour Resource Centre (CLRC)
to Combat Child Labour
Proposed Duration: 1 April 2001 - 31 March 2003
Objectives:
- To strengthen the capacity of the Department of Labour to tackle the child
labour problem effectively;
- To maintain a flow of information through a website monitored at the Child
Labour Resource Centre and to collect and create publications child Labour.
Activities:
- Development of a child labour training course ,the required training materials
,hiring of professional trainer(s) preparation of TORs for them, obtain nominations
of the relevant agencies and carry out 12 training courses for up to 15 officials
at a time;
- Organize awareness raising events for distribution of printed material and
publications ,establish contact with media to disseminate information ,arrange
public gatherings for mass awareness at selected localities and hold joint
events with stakeholders on International Children's Day;
- Hold regular meetings with all stakeholders and members of the two bodies
PCRC and CLRC and develop common understanding on policy matters to direct
efforts towards achieving national goals under the approved National Action
Plan;
- Motivate community to notice and report violations of law to the concerned
agencies or if hesitant to PCRC for follow up action;
- Collect, organize, feed and update the information in the website for global
consumers of information and keeping interaction through e-mail for feed back;
- Selection and purchase of relevant publications on child labour and prepare
a bibliography for easy access to reference material.
Remarks:
This action programmes will develop the capacity building of the Provincial
labour department, and develop information materials that will invariably include
gender sensitive perspective.
