Reduction Programme: Establishment of a Network of Treatment and Rehabilitation
Centers
Proposed Duration: June 2001 –May 2003
Objectives:
- To reduce drug abuse in Pakistan through strengthening treatment and rehabilitation
services.
Activities:
- Establishment of a network of 17 treatment and rehabilitation centers in
Pakistan that will provide quality treatment and rehabilitation services;
- Standardization of treatment protocol;
- Conduct training for NGOs and training institutions;
- Strengthen referral and rehabilitation services at the treatment center
network;
- Establish a system for data collection, reporting and research;
Activities specific to women:
- Assess the needs of women for drug treatment services;
- Encourage NGOs to involve women in their outreach/rehabilitation programmes;
- Provide training in referral and rehabilitation to NGOs and CBOs addressing
particular needs of women and children;
- Establish outreach and telephonic counseling services in selected centers
for female drug addicts;
- Collection of gender disaggregated data.
