Consequences
of Literacy for Women at the Village Level
(in collaboration with Dr. Iffat Farah, Karachi)
Proposed Duration: 30 May 2001 - 30 July 2001
Objectives:
- To find out the changes which might have come about in a village (especially
in the women) as a result of literacy programmes.
- To discover the changes in broad areas of social and cultural behaviour:
marriage and family life, income generation, personal independence and decision–making,
health and hygiene, and education.
- To find out more about objectives and contents of the literacy programme
for rural women.
- To find out whether women’s attitude, behaviour and actions affect the men
of the family and locality, and the children.
Activities:
- Questionnaire prepared and approved;
- Data collected and analyzed from villages of Punjab and Sindh;
- Presentation made and a research report compiled.
