Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) (with Ministry of Women Development, Social Welfare and Special Education)

Proposed Duration: 1999 – 2003

Objectives:

• To enhance and effectively plan the ECCD policy;

• To demonstrate an ECCD model for holistic development of children less than 5 years old in rural areas and urban slums in selected districts.

Activities:

• Conduction of a Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) study;

• Review of policies on ECCD;

• Setting up of a National Expert Committee;

• Awareness raising, including development and dissemination of a video;

• Capacity building of social welfare staff, youth groups, social voluntaries, NGOs and CBOs (Community Based Organizations) to reach families with ECCD knowledge and information.

Remarks:

The project has gender elements in the way it focuses on male and female roles in the family and various household/ gender dynamics.
