Implementation
of National Plan of Action (NPA) for women and the Convention on the Elimination
of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) (in
collaboration with the Ministry of Women Development, Social Welfare and Special
Education)
Proposed Duration: February 1999 – December 2003
Objectives:
- To support the government/ civil society in the process of implementing
the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and CEDAW, with a focus on
review of policies, enforcement, monitoring violations of rights, raising
awareness and reporting on progress;
- To raise awareness and support activities for protecting girls and women.
Activities:
- Development of mechanisms/ processes for coordination of implementation
of CEDAW/ NPA for women, and monitoring of implementation;
- Revision/ amendment of legislation and policies in selected areas;
- Fact-finding on selected areas of women’s concerns and setting up of a resource
centre for collection/ dissemination of information;
- Creating awareness on priority areas of women’s concerns among parliamentarians,
government functionaries, NGOs, members of civil society, the media and professional
groups and families;
- Finalization and dissemination of CEDAW report.
