Increasing
Primary School Participation of Girls in Balochistan
(in collaboration with Directorate of Primary Education,
Balochistan, and the Society for Community Support for Primary Education in
Balochistan)
Proposed Duration: 1999 – 2001
Objectives:
- To bring 35,000 girls primarily of ages 5-7 cohort into the entry grade
of primary schools and to maximize their attendance and retention in school
to ensure the completion of primary level education;
- To ensure community-wide promotion and broad community support for girls’
primary schools and education;
- To ensure that the community, school management committees and teachers,
with NGO support, take a collective responsibility for bringing children into
school and retain them, with particular attention to girls currently not attending
school;
- To ensure that all schoolwork is in the best interest of children, especially
girls.
Activities:
- School/ community action to increase girls’ participation in primary school;
- Community mobilization for support to girls’ primary education;
- Setting of precise school targets for girls’ enrollment in schools;
- Improving the school and classroom learning environment.
