|
Pakistan Medical Association /National Committee on Maternal
Health
|
Proposed Duration: 1999 – 2003
Objectives:
- To generate political commitment and support for prioritizing
service provision to reduce maternal mortality;
- To increase awareness in communities, with a focus on opinion
makers (political leaders, religious leaders, journalists, teachers, social
workers etc.) to avoid delays at the community level and for increased utilization
of women’s health services.
Activities:
- Advocacy to create cross-sector sensitization on maternal
mortality issues, and motivating communities to value women's lives and regard
them as equal human beings;
- Targeting provincial policy makers, participants from various
line departments, NGOs, health care providers (from public and private sectors),
students (from various colleges/universities and medical colleges), journalists
and religious leaders in selected districts, for sensitization on major causes
of maternal mortality. Targeted groups will be informed about the three-delay
model and the role of community and health professionals in preventing maternal
mortality.
