Objectives:
- To strengthen the mid-wives cadre;
- To support the National Programme on Primary Health Care
(PHC) and Family Planning (FP);
- To improve the knowledge and practices of Traditional Birth
Attendants (TBAs) and building their linkages with the First Level Care Facilities
along with support to improve appropriate referral
Activities:
- Implementation of the National Programme on Primary Health
Care and Family Planning, which consists of a network of 43,000 Lady Health
Workers who impart health education to approximately 430,000 people;
- Raising awareness on areas of primary health such as risk
factors associated with pregnancy, safe delivery practices, immunization and
family planning,
- Increasing coverage of Tetanus Toxoid, routine immunization
and contraceptive prevalence rate;
- Initiation of activities in four districts of Punjab to strengthen
linkages between Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) and Lady Health Workers
thus ensuring safe delivery practices and appropriate referral.
Remarks:
All activities that are geared towards maternal mortality reduction
address gender imbalance by working towards harm reduction to women and promoting
respect and concern for their lives.
