Creating Assets for Rural Women

• To improve the living standards of rural women and reduce their workload;

• To assist in building physical, economic and social assets for poor rural women and their families;

• To allow women easy physical access to basic social services and natural resources;

• To increase women’s accessibility to markets;

• To strengthen the role of women in decision-making;

• To provide women opportunities to increase family income and household food security.

• Allow women opportunities to employment and income generation through the Food For Work program (FFW);

• Provide women access to activities such as small-scale businesses, saving schemes, and livestock and poultry farming to ease their economic condition;

• Enable women to participate in adult literacy classes and other skill-development programs through the Food-for-Training program (FFT);

• Construct water-tanks or ponds, latrines, boundary walls, check dams/water channels, paths/link roads and wood lots;

• Distribute food stamps among participating women to purchase household food requirements, which also allows women to invest money previously spent on food, in a credit scheme managed by a women’s group.
