Indicators on the Status of Women in Pakistan,
Mujahid, M. E.

of Pakistan, 1998
Indicators: demography, education, health, employment, empowerment
Though this monograph is published in 1998 the data collection and analysis is of 1995, which in effect does not incorporate the indicators or data of the latest census. Nevertheless it gives an analysis of the sources of data in Pakistan and their emphasis on 'demand oriented' surveys. It points out the gaps in the methodology. It further presents a theoretical framework for improving the data set in order to develop indicators that reflect the status of women in Pakistan. The author emphasizes the need for incorporating the concept of decision-making power. Keeping in mind the patriarchal mindset and women's lack of decision making power this monograph develops a framework for a more comprehensive picture of women's status in Pakistani society. It also compares some gender specific development indicators of Pakistan with other comparable countries. [for employment see Zia. M. A 1998, Education, Zaheer, H. 1998, Health, Tinker, A. 1998]
