Chapters: Chapter 1 Introduction, Chapter 2 Women and Development, Chapter 3 Health Status, Chapter 4 Education Status, Chapter 5 Employment Status and Chapter 6 Conclusion.

This is an account of women's importance in national development. It provides a lot of information about the state of education, health and nutrition of women in Pakistan. It also contains evidence of discrimination and social prejudice against women. Simultaneously a detailed account of situations in other countries proves to be a learning experience. The discussion around the dearth of women's participation in technical and scientific education serves as an indicator for non-availability of qualified female teachers in science subjects. The data is also indicative of the fact that women's low participation in various fields leaves a major lacuna, which is an unexploited arena needing to be explored. Uneducated and unskilled women serve mostly as unpaid family helpers and their rightful place is denied in society. Education and training of women in its relation to socio-economic advancement of society has been emphasized in this report. [also see Zaheer, H. 1998]
