This book introduces
certain ideas and reflections on feminism and the women's movement. The essays
included here raise issues of concern in women's studies. The origin of women's
studies as a discipline within English literature is highlighted. Similarly,
the connection of feminist ideas with the women's movement is underlined as
an important part of the struggle for emancipation.
This volume is divided into four sections. The first introduces certain key
issues in women's studies, the second raises issues of the women's movement,
the third comprises abstracts of papers presented at the ASR women's studies
conference, March 1994, and the fourth section consists of appendices which
provide a quick guide to the conference activities and the process involved
in organizing an event of this kind.
This book is aimed to serve as a useful resource book as well as a reference
guide for people interested in these issues. It is also hoped to provide women
access to each other's work. The abstracts have been included to enable those
interested in research, to become aware of the work done by other women in their
area of interest. The names and addresses of conference participants allow women
to get in touch with one another to exchange ideas in the interactive process
of knowledge-making.
