Rural Women Poultry Keeping At Fatehjung,
Tariq. B.
for FSR MART Project PARC, April 1992
This is a report of an action research conducted by Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) in two villages of Fatehjung. Preliminary research revealed that rural women are extensively involved in crop production activities including seed management, collecting of farmyard manure and its application along with weeding. It also showed that women's participation in livestock operation particularly cleaning the shed and animals, bringing fodder and selling produce to villagers is considerable. Rural women were therefore imparted training regarding these activities. The project evaluation revealed that the trainees responded well to the adoption of new technologies in poultry keeping, their income increased which served as an added incentive and even those who had not been trained by the PARC acquired the skills. This project supports the idea that greater attention needs to be paid to women in agriculture, which improves their efficiency and productivity along with a better standard of living for the family.
