ERIC
Database
The Educational Resources Information Center
(ERIC) is a national information system designed to provide users
with ready access to an extensive body of education-related literature.
Established in 1966, ERIC is supported by the U.S. Department of
Education, Office of Educational Research and Improvement, and administered
by the National Library of Education.
The ERIC database, the world's largest source
of education information, contains nearly a million abstracts
of documents and journal articles on education research and practice.
Free MEDLINE
on the WWW
MEDLINE (MEDlars onLINE) is the National
Library of Medicine's (NLM) premier bibliographic database covering
the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine,
the health care system, and the pre-clinical sciences. It contains
bibliographic citations (e.g., authors, title, and journal reference)
and author abstracts from about 3,800 biomedical journals published
in the United States and 70 foreign countries during the current
four years. The database contains about 8.8 million records dating
back to 1966.
On June 26, 1997, NLM announced that the
MEDLINE database may be accessed free of charge on the World Wide
Web. Two NLM Web-based products; Internet Grateful Med and PubMed,
provide this access. PubMed has links to 30 full-text journals and
NLM plans to add even more. In some cases you can see the full original
article.

AIDSDRUGS
AIDSDRUGS is a dictionary of chemical and
biological agents currently being evaluated in the AIDS clinical
trials covered in the companion AIDSTRIALS database. Each record
represents a single substance and provides information such as standard
chemical names, synonyms and trade names, CAS Registry Numbers,
protocol ID numbers, pharmacological action, adverse reactions and
contraindications, physical/chemical properties, and manufacturers'
names. Agents which were tested in closed or completed trials are
included. A bibliography of relevant articles is also included.
AIDSTRIALS
AIDSLINE includes citations to literature
covering research, clinical aspects and health policy issues. PubMed
AIDS-related journal references may be found in MEDLINE® and retrieval
may easily be limited by selecting AIDS in the Subsets option located
under the Limits choice. Internet Grateful Med provides access to
a version of AIDSLINE containing citations
derived from the MEDLINE, HealthSTAR, and BIOETHICSLINE files, and
the meeting abstracts from the International Conferences on AIDS,
and other AIDS-related meetings, conferences and symposia. Citations
and abstracts from newsletters and special AIDS journals are also
included. In order to provide access to additional reference sources,
POPLINE Database:
POPLINE provides worldwide coverage of population,
family planning, and related health issues, including family planning
technology and programs, fertility, and population law and policy.
In addition, POPLINE focuses on particular developing-country issues
including demography, AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases,
maternal and child health, primary health care communication, and
population and environment.
Population
Index:
Bibliographic database of references to global
population literature. Also contains literature reviews on demographic
topics. Population Index, published since 1935, is the primary reference
tool to the world's population literature. It presents an annotated
bibliography of recently published books, journal articles, working
papers, and other materials on population topics. The Index is provided
free of charge on the Web as a public service, thanks to financial
support from NICHD.
The paper version of Population Index has
been discontinued effective with the last issue for 1999 (Volume
65, Number 4). The Office of Population Research is exploring alternatives
for continuing the electronic version of the Index. In the meantime,
this website will continue to be maintained, so you can browse or
search the entire collection of 46,035 abstracts of demographic
literature published in Population Index in the period 1986-1999.
