Type, size and coverage dates:

The Programme of Action adopted at the World Summit for Social Development in Copenhagen and the national reports on its implementation have been compiled on a CD-ROM entitled "Social Summit Digital Library". Copies of this CD ROM were presented to the media on the occasion of the UN Special Session for Social Development held in Geneva.

The disk contains the outcome of all the work pertaining to the theme that has been carried out by the UN member states during the past five years. Apart from containing the Programme of Action and the national reports, it also provides new ideas as to how social development can best be promoted in the future.

Subjects:

The CD-ROM contains the history of the Social Summit and its follow-up. The disk also contains the outcome of all the work that has been carried out around the theme by the UN member states during the past five years. Apart from containing the Programme of Action and the national reports, it also provides new ideas about how social development can best be promoted in the future.

 Sources of Information:

 The material on the CD ROM has been collected by the UN Secretariat and the International Labour Organisation, ILO. The Finnish Government has been the main source of funding for the disk

Type of literature:

Full texts of all the documents of the Social Summit and follow-ups are available on the CD ROM, including the Copenhagen Declaration, agreements, statements, annual reviews on the themes, examples from countries around the world, etc.

Target users and use:

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the ILO Central Library (BIBL) jointly produced the CD-ROM as a support for the consultations of the Special Session in Geneva. The Social Summit Digital Library on CD-ROM is intended as a reference tool containing all major documents of the United Nations and the ILO which relate to the goals of the Summit.

Access:

The Social Summit Digital Library CD ROM has been placed on the CD_NET Server for LAN-wide Access in the UN HOUSE. Please follow the following steps to access this resources:

  1. In the Windows Explorer Program, Expand the Network Neighbourhood
  2. Find the folder: MD325131_NW, which is our CD Net Server and expand it.
  3. You will see the folders for different CD's on the server. Find the folder named: CD_24299 and double click on it.
  4. Find the file start.exe and double click on it.
  5. You can skip introduction if you want. Use the TAB in the lower right hand corner to start the CD.
