It is noteworthy
that the poor are mostly illiterate, but those who do get education do
not find jobs and some are so frustrated that they do not even apply
for a job. This presumption that jobs cannot be obtained without bribe
or strong ‘connections’ has been the main reason for not applying for
a job: as many as 83.3 and 91.1 per cent of the educated from the
extremely poor and the poor households, respectively, cited this to be
the reason for not getting a job, and 50.0 and 47.7 per cent
respectively cited it as a reason for not applying.
