Teacher Training

Based on the material developed for teacher training in earthquake affected areas with the support of UNESCO, members of the education cluster agreed on the need to provide a similar response for the flood-affected teachers. Rather than responding to individual disasters, the decision was made to develop a comprehensive generic disaster training material which included disaster and emergency preparedness for a variety of scenarios including natural and human-made disasters. Inputs for the development of this material were taken from cluster members including UNICEF, Save the children, the National Disaster Management Authority and the Bureau of Curriculum end Extension Centre among others. This material was fully endorsed by the Bureau of Curriculum in Quetta.

The material was fully translated to make sure that both Master Trainers and teachers could assimilate all the concepts and ensure sound comprehension of the tools introduced including disaster management, psychosocial support for teachers and students as well as the basic principles of participatory and learner-centered methodology. Over 500 teachers were trained in some of the most affected districts in Balochistan. Further trainings are planned by sister UN agencies with the same material.

Together with the teacher training material, a training of trainers was carried out, providing the Master Trainers with effective facilitation skills as well as an opportunity to have a better knowledge of the contents while having some demonstration sessions to receive feedback from their colleagues.
