Press Freedom

UNESCO promotes freedom of expression and freedom of the press as a basic human right.  To raise awareness of this right, UNESCO joins the media around the world to celebrate the World Press Freedom Day.  The theme for 2008 celebration is ‘Freedom of Expression, Access to Information and Empowerment of People’.  The statement of the Director General of UNESCO is available here.

Media Awards

UNESCO Islamabad supported the establishment of two Gender in Journalism Awards by Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) in 2002.  The Office has provided financial support to the Awards since.  These awards are aimed at recognizing outstanding coverage of any issue by a female journalist and for excellence in gender sensitive reporting respectively by the best journalists in the country.  In addition, UNESCO Islamabad has supported the Annual Aslam Ali Press Freedom Award since 2006. This Award recognizes journalists who has made significant contribution to promotion of press freedom in Pakistan.  more...

Media Training

UNESCO considers the mass media a partner in development.  The Organization works with media trainers to build and enhance capacities of journalists for providing relevant information to the public and facilitating the public’s participation in development initiatives affecting them. RADIO PROGRAMMES INTERNATIONAL AWARDS COMPETITION

Asian-themed media projects to be awarded Radio artists from around the world whose programs are based on Asian themes.

Catetgories: 27.  Including Best Radio Drama, Best Radio Talk Show, Best Radio History Program, and Best Radio Sports Program.
