UNIC advocates for and communicates on “Delivering as One” UN with the Government, donors and partners, media, civil society and publics. It is involved in raising awareness of key UN interventions in the country among youth, the media, national institutions and the general public. UNIC strengthens the role of the inter-agency UN Communications Group to undertake and promote One UN communication and public information activities.
Mr. Vlastimil Samek, Director, United Nations Information Centre
Before his assignment with the United Nations Information Centre in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, appointed by the former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, Mr. Vlastimil Samek served as the Representative of the United Nations Department of Public Information and Head of the United Nations Information Office in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Director a. i. of the United Nations Information Centre in Indonesia.
Mr. Samek, a national of the Czech Republic, comes to this post with extensive experience in communications, diplomacy, international, economic and public relations.
Mr. Samek joined the United Nations after serving his country at various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Industry and Trade with long-term assignments in Myanmar, Bangladesh and Mongolia.
Mr. Samek has also advised several state-owned as well as corporate entities on international relations and communications.
Mr. Samek holds a master’s degree from the University of Economics and International Relations in Prague.
