The United Nations Information Centre, UN Office on Drugs and Crime and UNAIDS jointly organised a media seminar to commemorate this day at UNIC on the afternoon of 26 June 2004. The Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control was the chief guest and the Secretary of the Ministry of Narcotics also attended it.
The session started with the UNIC Director's welcoming address and the Secretary-General's message, followed by the power-point presentations by the Officer-in-Charge of UNODC and the Country Coordinator a.i. of UNAIDS.
Before the keynote address by the Interior Minister, the Director General of Anti-Narcotics Force explained about the situation of the use of drugs in the country and the work of his Force to fight against the drug abuse.
Over 50 reporters, representatives of UN agencies and Government ministries
attended the event.
