The UN System organized a roundtable discussion in the capital in collaboration with a DPI-associated NGO, SACH on 9th December. Five specific aspects of human rights were chosen for discussion on health, education, governance, information and human rights issues in general. Leading figures in the country in these fields were the panellists to lead discussions, such as lawyers, educators, academicians, Parliamentarians and government officials. The media formed a part of the discussants, so have post-graduate university students and NGOs.
Ms. Neelofar Bakhtiar, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Women Development Social Welfare and Special Education, honoured the roundtable as the Chief Guest.
Panellists were: Justice Naseem Hassan Shah, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Majida Rizvi, Chairperson of the National Commission on Status of Women, Ms Fozia Habib, Member of the National Assembly, Mr Ehsan Sadiq, Superintendent of Police VIP and Security of the Diplomatic Protection Department, Dr Majeed Rajpoot, Chief of the National Health Policy Unit of the Ministry of Health, Mr Zafarullah Khan, Team Leader/Federal Coordinator of the Pakistan Family Protection Project of the Ministry of Women Development, Dr Rizwan Taj, Head of Psychiatry Department of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Mr Sarfaraz Ahmed Syed, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr Hassan Mehmood Al-Shafi, President of the International Islamic University as well as Ms Sajida Iqbal Syed, Director General of the Internal Publicity Wing, and Mr Ashfaque Ahmad Gondal, Principal Information Officer, of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. There were also representatives from the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Assembly, NGOs, media and university students of post-graduate level.
