
Over fifty people attended the two-and-a-half-hour discussion, and more than half of the participants were journalists. Panellists were eminent scholars from Peshawar University, government and NGO representatives.
The Vice Chancellors of Peshawar University and Engineering University also attended, and the Vice Chancellor of Peshawar University made concluding remarks.
As the discussion was very lively and there were free exchanges of opinions, the session was extended by half an hour.
At the request of the UN Resident Coordinator, a.i., the UNIC Director represented the UN System in Pakistan and made a presentation on the SG report.
The operation was funded from the Resident Coordinator's Office and UNIC's seed money for the SG report. The Administrative Assistant/Information Coordinator of UNIC and a free-lance journalist acted as moderators, as in the previous event held at UNIC towards the end of July.
Four reports were carried in English and Urdu dailies published in Islamabad. Press clippings of the entire media coverage will be sent to UNIC from the University of Peshawar shortly.
The last of the series of campaigns is expected to be held at the University
of the Punjab, Lahore, on 8 September 2005.
