UNIC and the Peace Council of Pakistan jointly organised a ceremony and walk at the Holiday Inn in Islamabad.
The ceremony started at 16:45 upon the arrival of the chief guest, i.e. the UN Resident Coordinator, who read the Secretary-General's Peace Day message. The opening remarks by the Chairman of the Peace Council of Pakistan and the Secretary-General's message were followed by songs and sketches on peace by students of two schools and a college.

Four universities, one women's college and two schools participated in the event and they set up colourful displays on the theme of peace in the conference hall. They also prepared giant doves which they exhibited in the fall during the ceremony before carrying them during the peace walk.
Thereafter, the participants moved out to the street for a peace walk. Students held large banners and placards of peace messages with designs of doves, and the procession was led by giant doves carried by students. Two "live doves" who took part in one of the sketches also walked in the procession. The walk lasted for about half an hour, and the whole event ended with a reception back at the hotel.
An artist of an international music group flew in from Karachi to deliver his speech on peace and played his music. Then, candles were lit and all participants held them in their hands during the performance of another musician, a signer/song writer. While the candles were held high, the Resident Coordinator tolled a peace bell three times.
