SPARC is a non-profit, non-governmental, research, networking and advocacy organization focusing on a wide perspective of social and legal concerns such as juvenile justice, child labor, and education. The organization's priority is to see the Convention on Child Rights (CRC) implemented, so as to guarantee children a life free from oppression. Their ultimate goal is to provide a better future for the upcoming generation of South Asia in the 21st century.
Headed by Mr. Anees Jillani as the national coordinator, the organization is based in Islamabad. Since its foundation in 1992, SPARC has come some distance in raising awareness about the rights of the child in Pakistan.
SPARC has been very active in campaigning against child labor, and among other activities in this regard organized a two day regional conference in 1999 on "The State of Child Labor in South Asia". In addition SPARC has played a leading role in the formation of nationwide Coalition against Child Labor. It has also organized workshops and journalist encounters.
SPARC works closely with the UN and its agencies in organizing seminars and events. It also collaborates on joint information projects like the Global March against Child Labor in Pakistan (1998) that passed through more than 100 countries and led to the passage of the ILO Convention on the Worst Forms of Child Labor.
