The United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI) provides regular material to Reference Libraries in its Information Centres throughout the world. These regional libraries offer a wide selection of UN films for loan to broadcasters, universities and non-governmental organizations. Students’ groups from schools and colleges are also welcome and the Centre arranges the film-screening for them in its premises on important UN events/celebrations.
Historical films are available in 16mm format as well as films on new issues in UMATIC and BETACAM format.
Almost every aspect of the work of the United Nations and the specialized agencies is covered in the approximately 500 films and videos currently available at the UN Information Centre in Islamabad. These productions reflect everything from the decisions of the General Assembly and the Security Council to such issues as the environment, peace-keeping, development, drugs and natural disasters. Other productions explain the structure of the Organization and its objectives.
United Nations films bring to their audiences a global point of view on the sometimes controversial issues of our time. The topics are presented in a variety of styles, from humorous animated shorts to informative documentary reports filmed around the world.
All UN films and videos are also available for purchase from UN Headquarters, New York, or through regional film libraries. Prices vary depending on the programme length, format and standard. Quotations can be obtained upon request from:
