On 8 March 2003, the United Nations system in Pakistan observed International Women's Day in Quetta, Balochistan, and Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), through a series of events. All the events were coordinated through the Pakistan Network of Information Specialists (PANIS) group which consists of all UN agencies in Pakistan and is chaired by UNIC.


The main feature of the event in Quetta was the launching of a book "Promoting Productive Empowerment for the Women of the Handicrafts Sector" published by UNIDO and a seminar entitled "Role of Women in the Socio-economic Development in Pakistan".
