International Women's Day

Islamabad - 25 - 28 March 2005

On behalf of the UN System in Pakistan a Women's Festival for three days (25-27 March 2005), in collaberation with an NGO SACH and the Federal Ministry of Women Devleopment. The First Lady of Pakistan opened the festival on 25 March 2005. Special Representative of the Secretary-General on HIV/AIDS for Asia, Prime Minister's Advisor on Women Development, the UN Resident Coordinator and six heads of UN agencies were also present at the opening ceremony.

Around 50 stalls of women artisans from the different parts of the country were set up. The festival was open to the genral public. Many other evnets like musical evening, puppet shows on women's issues and a Mushaira (poets recitation of their poetry) were also organised as part of the festival.
